1935 Gibson L-5

This has to be one of the very first “Advanced Model” Gibson L-5s, with the 17” wide body, from about as early in 1935 as can be, possibly even from 1934, which the FON inside the guitar does indicate. Regardless, it’s an absolutely stunning guitar. It took me quite a while to convince myself that there’s a coat of overspray on the original finish (which is all there too), it looks that great, but this kind of thing takes second place when the overall quality of a musical instrument is so obvious; this guitar just sings, and loudly. The frets are gorgeous modern replacements to original spec, making it a fabulous-playing guitar as well. The pickguard is a nearly undetectable replacement; the originals from back then almost always had problems and we’re grateful for this practical improvement; the tuners and tailpiece and bridge are original, all of which is to say that someone who really wants to play will have a lifetime keeper with this terrific, pre-war Gibson L-5. Still has its original Gibson “Red Line" hard shell case. $7995 w/ohsc
