1956 Martin 000-18

1956 Martin 000-18

This is one of the nicest Martin 000-18s we’ve seen come along in quite a while. Aside from being in remarkably fine condition with no cracks, anywhere (!), it is beautifully clean as well. showing some gentle use with only a few scratches here and there, and plenty of loving care. Better still, the action is perfect, with wonderfully easy playability courtesy of a very neat neck reset in the past by parties unknown. Volume and tone, as expected, are beautiful and clear across the entire range, all of what you’d want in an older Martin 000-18, and more. This guitar came to us from a man who tells us that it was formerly owned by a noted woman songwriter and performer in the early years of the folk music movement, Hedy West, and while he offered no proof nor did I ask him for any, I believe him. He is an older gentleman of some means, has no reason to fell tales, just wants to see this guitar find a very appreciative new home. Hedy West, as some of you fans of the genre and especially some of our older friends will know, is credited with having composed, from several older folk songs, what practically became an anthem of the 1960s, the song “500 Miles”. I’ll leave it to others to find proof of this Martin guitar’s having truly been owned by her. The real deal here is that it’s a terrific instrument; one could hardly ever hope to find another nearly this sweet, let alone sweeter. You won’t find a 1950s Martin 000-18 nicer than this anywhere, especially at this price. $4995 w/bag
