2007 Greco 7 String

2007 Greco 7 String

Carlo Greco was a renowned luthier and repairman on New York’s famed 48th St. We’ve seen several of his guitars come through over time, but none quite like this. It is a 7-string version, with 2-1/8” nut width; the 7th string is currently tuned to a low-B, though it can be tuned however you like. It is painted satin black, and while we can’t say for sure that this finish is original as it is not quite of Carlo’s usual kind, there is nothing to indicate that any other finish has ever been on it. The top is spruce; not possible to say if it’s solid or laminated but the maple back appears to be laminated. The neck is quite straight, with a shallow profile, and the action is most excellent. Genuine ebony fingerboard, bridge, and tailpiece; mother-of-pearl “Carlo Greco NY” peghead inlay; Grover Imperial tuners with special Gotoh 7th-string tuner. Overall quality is very good, perhaps not quite Gibson standards but it is solidly built and is an excellent seven-string guitar for someone on a more modest budget. There is a serial-numbered label inside and underneath the top is the hand-written legend Hand Crafted by / Carlo Greco / in NY July 2007. Mr. Greco died early in 2015 after quite a lengthy and storied career in New York; this is one of his last guitars. $1195 w/hsc
