1969 Gibson RB-150

Quite rare and quite wonderful in the world of Gibson Bluegrass banjos, the RB-150 is an unusual combination of their best sound and feel, but with a less costly look. This is basically an RB-100, which was designed to be a much less expensive alternative to the world-famous and oft-copied RB-250 Mastertone, but it’s got all the important parts of an RB-250 that an RB-100 does not have. The RB-100 was same size and all but without the famed Mastertone tone ring and without the fancier appointments; I think they must’ve offered this upgraded RB-150 combination for maybe twenty minutes in the late 1960s only. It’s got the wonderful RB-250 Mastertone tone ring and double coordinator-rod system inside the rim to keep it all real solid, but without the mother-of-pearl inlay and all that other cosmetic hoopla. Result: basically a real Gibson Mastertone banjo but for a lot less dough. I don’t think I’ve seen more than two or three examples of this model in the last forty years, was thrilled to have come across this one. And it’s clean, and very nicely set up right here by us, and it can be yours for only $1495 w/hsc
