1946 Gibson BR-6

1946 is about as close as we can get on the dating of this fabulous Gibson lap steel, since a lot of these don’t have serial numbers and there was no such thing as standard potentiometer dating in those years. However……..It is indeed a fabulous Gibson lap steel, and I do mean that. The pickup is one of those P-90 forerunners with six individual, cylindrical magnets as opposed to height screws, and it is HOT HOT HOT, about as loud as a quarter-pound of C-4. Better yet, I‘ve just gone over the entire guitar my own self and replaced both volume and tone pots since the originals were half-past useless, and it now functions just beautifully, smooth as smooth can be. The tuners had already been replaced with recent Fender-style ones when I got it and that’s just fine; most of those post-war Klusons, um, sucked. So………. Blues down or Rodeo up, whatever you like; you simply won’t find a better 1940s Gibson lap steel than this one, and Bonus! There’s a secret under the (removable) handguard, in that the top plate of the pickup is way cool tortoiseshell, looks so great you’ll hardly be able to stand it, when you peek; jack plate also same tortoiseshell material. Original cool cool brown Gibson hard shell case. $1495 w/ohsc
