1972 Gibson RB-250

Gibson serial numbers from the 1970s are a bit opaque, but we can safely call this banjo as being form the early 1970s, with 1972 being a very educated guess. Regardless……It’s a real, honest-to-goodness Gibson Mastertone from the just-post-“bowtie inlay” era, when they finally realized that the pre-war inlay patterns and pearl-inlaid script peghead logos were indeed quite cool. It has the 1920s RB-75 mother-of-pearl inlays, with of course the engraved “Mastertone” pearl block at the 21st fret; iconic 20-hole flat-head tone ring; two internal co-ordianator rods (some later versions only had one); the better two-piece flange; “clamshell” tailpiece with script Gibson logo; excellent Gibson geared tuners; and all nickel-plated parts. All of which is to say it’s a truly great 5-string bluegrass banjo, all set up right here and ready to go. $1995 w/ohsc
