2007 Greco 7 String

2007 Greco 7 String

Carlo Greco was a renowned luthier and repairman on New York’s famed 48th St. for many years. We’ve seen several of his jazz guitars come through over time, but none quite like this one. It is a 7-string version, with 2-1/8” nut width to match; the 7th string is currently tuned to a low-A. It is painted satin black, and while we can’t say for sure that this finish is original as it is not quite of professional standards, there is nothing to indicate that any other finish has ever been on it. The top is spruce, as shown by looking through the F-holes at its underside with a mirror; again, not possible to say if it’s solid or laminated spruce but the back, again looking via the inside, appears to be laminated. The neck is straight, with a shallow profile around the back, and the action is excellent. Genuine ebony fingerboard, bridge, and tailpiece; mother-of-pearl “Carlo Greco NY” peghead inlay; Grover Imperial tuners with special Gotoh 7-th string tuner. Overall quality is moderate, honestly not quite up to, say, Gibson standards but it is solidly built and will provide a very good seven-string jazz guitar for someone on a modest budget. There is a serial-numbered label inside and underneath the top is the hand-written legend “Hand crafted by / Carlo Greco / in NY July 2007”. Mr. Greco died early in 2015 after quite a lengthy and storied career here; this is one of his last guitars. $1995 w/hsc
