19th Cent Martin Ivory Tuning Pegs

Something you don’t see come up for sale very often if at all, ever. This is a complete set of genuine ivory tuning pegs that had come factory installed, as part of a special order on an 1890s Martin guitar. Up until about 1910 or so, Martin offered, for a few extra dollars, to specially build any guitar with a solid rather than slotted peghead, using solid ivory friction pegs as opposed to the standard tuning machines of the day. This set, in storage here for many decades and in beautiful original condition, came from a wrecked late-1890s Martin, from which little was salvageable other than the ivory tuning pegs. They are clean, they have never been altered in any way, and they are gorgeous in all their hand-turned simplicity. For the better-grade earlier Martin whose ivory tuning pegs have long since been pirated. $1995
