1980s ESP Tele Deluxe

1980s ESP Tele Deluxe

I had more than a little involvement with the ESP company when they first started exporting their guitars to the US, with their HQ and shop right here in downtown NYC. I sold quite a few in those days, mostly Fender copies, and exceptionally good ones at that. I can’t say for sure that this one is from the 1980s but it sure looks like it to me and if not, I’m real close. This particular one is a most unusual and fine example, in that the neck is one solid piece of a species of mahogany, and the body is made from two bookmatched pieces of amazingly straight, finely-grained pieces of what appears to be a superior grade of ash, so much so that it almost looks like spruce. Regardless, it’s one heck of a cool guitar, with a standard Tele-type pickup at the bridge and a DiMarzio humbucker at the neck, Tele Custom style. There is also a coli-tapping mini-switch for the humbucker. All set up right here in our shop and ready to go. There is no case. $675
