1996 Martin MTV

1996 Martin MTV

From the timeless collection of Dick Boak, the Martin Guitar Company’s official head of artist relations, official historian, official Keeper of the Flame, and so much more for over forty years, comes this prime example of their famous and unique MTV Unplugged model. Dick designed this guitar along with Alex Coletti, then-head of MTV. In Dick’s own words: “We wanted to make a bold statement. This is the first Martin with mixed woods for back and sides.” Its very unique feature is that the treble back and side panels are of genuine mahogany, while its bass back and side panels are of East Indian rosewood. The word “UNPLUGGED” is inlaid in beautiful abalone shell in individual letters on the fingerboard; the official MTV logo is inlaid on the peghead; the soundhole rosette is inlaid with heart of abalone shell as well. The condition of the guitar overall is immaculate, absolutely near-mint. The tone is big and clear, as one would expect from an instrument of this caliber; the acton is perfect, as per original. This particular guitar was Dick Boak's own, is #3 of all the ones made, and has its label hand-signed by CF Martin IV. $2195 w/ohsc
