2012 Martin Limited Edition John Sebastian Signature Series DSS Model

2012 Martin Limited Edition John Sebastian Signature Series DSS Model

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. It is John Sebastian’s personal Martin, literally the prototype for the Limited Edition John Sebastian Martin Signature Series DSS Model. The edition was limited to forty-four pieces for the public plus this one prototype, with its woods selected by John himself from Martin’s vast store of special tonewoods. John, as so many of you know, was the leader of the world-famous band The Lovin’ Spoonful in the 1960s, and wrote and performed the huge hits “What A Day For A Daydream” and “Do You Believe In Magic”, as well as “Welcome Back” for the TV show Welcome Back Kotter, and so many more. The guitar itself is a daydream come true. With its “slope-shouldered” Dreadnaught body with the very finest flamed-koa back and sides, and super-select Adirondack top and braces, its tones are, in John’s own words, spectacularly detailed. The finish on the top is the most subtly shaded of sunbursts, done by Martin's very best person in this arena. The 25.4” scale gives it power, and the unique Martin Performing Artist neck shape, along with its 1-3/4” nut, make it a guitar that you just do not want to put down, ever. The world’s very best tuning machines, Waverlys, complete the playability picture with great finesse. And one more thing: there’s a Fishman pickup already installed, something that was not included in the production models.
As for pictures you can see, I am in love with the fingerboard inlay pattern. It is a combination of stars, a wonderful crescent moon, and a Lovin’ Spoonful device that was created just for this model. Along with this goes a 45-style pearl inlaid soundhole rosette and also included in the package are a few of the cutouts from the fingerboard inlays made for this very instrument, and there are also paper printouts of this and alternative inlay patterns. But wait…….there’s more! Possibly best of all is a four page handwritten letter from John, on his personal stationery, telling the story of the guitar and wishing the very best for its next owner; this is the kind of thing that can be found nowhere else. And there’s more: a sheet with six copies of the labels with the iconic photo of John in his tie-dyed jacket (which jacket is now in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame), taken during John’s performance at Woodstock; yes, that Woodstock. These labels were put in each production guitar along with a numbered label hand-signed by John, but this guitar, your guitar, has a label that says “Prototype # 1 of 1”, hand-signed in ink by John. This stunning instrument, along with all of its attendant extras, yours for $6995 w/ohsc
