1993 Martin Custom Shop OM-28 Perry Bechtel

1993 Martin Custom Shop OM-28 Perry Bechtel

I am willing to bet that many of you know the story of the origin of Martin’s very first 14-fret guitars, in 1929, at the behest of one Mr Perry Bechtel, noted guitarist of the day. I’ll let those of you who don’t know look it up on your own and not belabor you with a long story here, other than to say that after changing the specs and deleting the “OM-28” model name from their lineup in 1934, Martin did not make guitars with these specifications again until these few Custom Shop versions, in 1993. The basics are: 14-fret neck with 1-3/4” nut width; original Martin “soft V” neck contour with 25.4” scale; select Indian rosewood back and sides; select straight-grain Sitka spruce top; original Martin OM-style small tortoise pickguard; special Schaller Mini tuning machines with engraved buttons, with the capital letter “M” on each. There is a label inside, clearly visible through the soundhole, hand-signed by both CF Martin IV and Mrs Perry Bechtel. There were only 93 of these special Custom Shop Perry Bechtel OM-28s made; this instrument was sold new in my store and carefully kept by its original owner, who has since moved on. Condition is near mint, with barely a scratch on it and virtually no fret wear. Comes with its original Martin hard shell case. $3695 w/ohsc
