A one-off, one-of-a-kind, very special Gretsch guitar made for a very special person we’ve all loved since forever, John Sebastian of the great and wonderful Lovin' Spoonful and so much more. To me directly from John, a good friend since we were both kids in the 1960s. Its basics are a re-creation of one of the original Chet Atkins Country Gentleman models, the 6122-1959, itself no longer made and this particular one with highly-flamed maple top and back, something I haven't seen before and way, way cool in my book. The good people at Gretsch were thrilled to accommodate John more than ten years ago with this special version, most importantly with that repro of the classic 1950s Gretsch “G” tailpiece replacing the standard Bigsby whang bar, sure makes keeping it in tune a lot easier. It’s also got terrific TV Jones pickups made in original Gretsch styles, just can’t beat that!
