National New Yorker Lap Steel 1955
National New Yorker Lap Steel 1955
Once again, from our heroes, the Lords of Lap Steels, Valco of Chicago. Called the “New Yorker” model for its graphic resemblance to New York's skyline (and it says New Yorker” right on it, unusual) it’s got their standard 23” scale and by far the BIGGEST pickup I’ve ever seen on one of these, no telling what those people would do next. The 3-position (as opposed to the common, continuously variable type) tone control is labeled BASS, MELLOW, and BRILLIANT as opposed to HAWAIIAN, CHIMES, and HARP usually seen on these. Who writes this stuff? But it’s clean, clear, and cool, and that’s what counts. As ever on these, the hand rest is MIA. I suspect that all National lap steel hand rests may have been made from a less than desirable material that promptly vanished of its own volition. The other 95% of this fab National is in wonderful condition and its original Lifton hard shell case is included, got that Lifton “Built Like A Fortress” label right inside. Heck of a great buy for a really great vintage National lap steel. Only $995 w/ohsc
